Bullivant Cares a "Ton" for Local Charity Neighborhood House

Monday, April 02, 2012

Bullivant Houser Bailey's Portland office honored its long commitment to local charity Neighborhood House by donating nearly four tons of food in a two-week drive concluded Friday, March 30.

The effort, which included cash and in-kind donations, was initiated by shareholders Steve Cook and Robert Moore, whose relationship to the local group goes back many years. The initial effort by the two attorneys grew into an office-wide attempt to fill donation barrels and cash contribution envelopes for Southwest Hope food banks.

"We had just two weeks and challenged ourselves to see if we could show that 'Bullivant Cares a Ton' by collecting the equivalent of 2,000 pounds of food," said Cook. "Based on Neighborhood House's goal of collecting 150,000 pounds of food or the cash equivalent, we were overwhelmed by our colleagues' generosity."

The donation of food and cash will support the organization's efforts to feed an increasingly hungry population in Portland. It is estimated that Oregon leads the nation in child food insecurity.
