Bullivant launches Arts, Entertainment & Sports law team
October, 2008
Bullivant Houser Bailey PC, a leading West Coast law firm, has established an arts, entertainment and sports group to further meet the needs of its clients in those industries.
Bullivant has been servicing this industry for decades, but has recently formalized its marketing strategy. The firm's clients include film studios, record labels, museums and cultural institutions, a celebrity chef, production companies, gaming developers, authors, screenplay writers, fine artists and musicians of a variety of genres, individual athletes, and sports teams.
Bullivant assists clients with their business needs, including business organization, contracts, project financing, production, intellectual property and licensing agreements. Our tax attorneys serve as advisors in maximizing the benefits and minimizing the income tax consequences associated with client's work, and with the expenses they incur developing their artwork or rights under contract. The industry group's services include protecting the interests of clients in matters involving copyright, trademark, trade secrets, licensing, art and digital media law, and rights of publicity. The firm also has expertise in litigation of entertainment industry disputes, including breach of contract, intellectual property infringement, and royalty claims.
Attorneys in the group are located in all six of the firm's West Coast offices. Senior associate Erica Krikorian, co-chair of the group and former Los Angeles attorney, is based in the firm's Seattle office and represents cultural institutions, design firms and artists. Ms. Krikorian is an Arts Commissioner for the City of Sammamish and an adjunct professor at the Seattle University School of Law where she teaches the Art Law Clinic. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Seafair and serves on the Arts Festival Committee. Candice Jackson, senior associate in the Vancouver office and co-chair of the group, recently moved from the Los Angeles area, where she represented authors and other artists.
"We're excited to launch this industry group because it marks our unique abilities in the fields of arts, entertainment and sports law, and it allows us to better serve our clients in those industries along the West Coast," said Krikorian.
"We have the experience and expertise needed to deliver great results for our clients in this industry," said Renée Rothauge, a member of the group and chair of the firm's Intellectual Property practice group. "Many of our attorneys have been working with clients in the arts and entertainment industries for years, and this opportunity for collaboration will greatly benefit our clients across all markets."
Members of the industry group include Ryan Boyle, Jerry Carleton, Steve English, Kimball Ferris, Abby Wool Landon, Loren Podwill, Michael Ratoza, Renée Rothauge, and Richard Whittemore in the firm's Portland office; Toni Anders, Steve Fisher, Troy Greenfield, Bree Kame'enui-Ramirez, Erica Krikorian, Gail Manuguid, and Connie Sue Martin in Seattle; Eric Ferraro, Micah Jacobs, and Sunita Koneru in San Francisco; Candice Jackson and Todd Mitchell in Vancouver, Washington; Scott Bartel, Krista Dunzweiler, Sarah Ham, Carl Schwedler, and John Spomer in Sacramento; and Judah Zakalik in Las Vegas.
