Practice Experience

Steve Cook's practice focuses on intellectual property, contracting, mergers and acquisitions, and overall business law advice as "outside general counsel" to a variety of businesses and individuals.

Steve advises clients with regard to trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. He regularly assists clients in evaluating potential trademarks, securing trademark rights including through federal registration, and evaluating and resolving trademark disputes.

He has extensive experience forming and organizing corporations, cooperatives, and other business entities. Steve has handled purchases, sales and the financing of businesses, and has represented owners, directors, officers, and employees with regard to their business relationships. He drafts and negotiates a wide variety of contracts, including employment, noncompetition, nondisclosure, consulting, distribution, license and joint venture agreements.

Steve represents participants in the health care industry, including hospitals, clinics and physicians. He has also worked in the energy industry, representing clients in connection with power purchase agreements and facilities generating electricity from biogas.

Steve also represents land trusts and landowners in land conservation transactions, including conservation easements and the donation and sale of sensitive lands for conservation purposes.
