Practice Experience

Stuart Jones's practice focuses on class action litigation and first party insurance issues involving both commercial and personal lines including coverage opinions and litigation. He also has experience in commercial and international commercial litigation and disputes involving trade dress, trade name infringement and unfair competition claims.

Stuart has maintained a Martindale-Hubbell AV® Peer Review Rating for a number of years, and has been recognized as an Oregon Super Lawyer each year since 2006.

Recent Examples of Representation and Results

  • Prevailed in the United States Supreme Court on behalf of personal lines insurer on issues of first impression in a national class action defining statutory duties under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Represented a commercial lines insurer in a multi-million dollar first-party property insurance dispute in Federal court in Ohio, and successfully obtained dismissal of six of the plaintiff's seven claims (including allegations of bad faith, fraud, reformation and promissory estoppel) by summary judgment. Stuart was part of the trial team that obtained a defense verdict on the remaining claim.
  • Stuart obtained summary judgment dismissing intentional interference with economic relations claim against a claims representative of a personal lines insurer in a dispute filed in Oregon state court. He subsequently joined the insurer's defense team that obtained a defense verdict dismissing the plaintiff's claim and awarding a money judgment against plaintiff on an unjust enrichment counterclaim.
  • Stuart has provided coverage opinions and advised various commercial lines insurers on losses involving issues of collapse, flood, contamination, business interruption, faulty workmanship, earth movement and allegations of bad faith.
