Bullivant Houser is a nationally-recognized insurance and litigation law firm. Our three offices handle a mixture of civil defense, complex commercial and insurance coverage disputes, and extra-contractual and bad faith claims, litigated throughout the West. We provide legal services to regional, national, and international clients. The Portland and Seattle offices of Bullivant Houser are interested in meeting with experienced appellate lawyers, who may be looking for a new opportunity with a firmly-established appellate practice.
Bullivant Houser’s appellate litigation group handles appeals in federal courts of appeals and state appellate courts throughout the United States. The group has broad experience, having presented hundreds of arguments in state and federal appellate courts. The appellate group is experienced in a wide range of substantive areas, including insurance coverage, employment, ERISA, preemption, securities, product liability, punitive damages, premises liability, timber trespass, adverse possession, wrongful death, medical malpractice, defamation, and class action certification. Our appellate group is expected to review the trial court record, identify appeal-worthy issues, evaluate the merits of a potential appeal, develop appellate strategy, write appellate briefs, including amicus briefs, and present oral argument.
In addition to handling cases in appellate courts, the appellate group works with our trial lawyers to develop effective legal strategies and ensure issues in the trial court are preserved for appeal. To that end, our appellate group assists in analyzing complex legal issues, consults on litigation strategy, and drafts and argues dispositive motions, trial submissions, and post-trial motions.
