Employment Law Associate – Mid to Senior Level

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Portland office of Bullivant Houser is seeking an attorney with four or more years of experience handling employment law matters to join a well-respected firm that offers a collegial, collaborative and stable work environment.  The position involves defense of employment law matters, including but not limited to, advising and representing clients in employment-related commercial litigation and employment law advice and litigation (e.g. drug and alcohol issues in the workplace, EEO compliance, employee disciplinary matters, retaliation claims, sexual and other forms of unlawful harassment, whistleblowing claims, wrongful termination claims).  This position involves all phases of litigation with increasing responsibility for file management, including legal research, drafting pleadings, reviewing and propounding discovery, managing files, and appearing and presenting arguments at hearings, depositions, arbitrations and trials.

We offer a hybrid work schedule (with an expectation of three days per week in-person).

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for forward-thinking professionals who are committed to helping us meet our clients’ challenging legal issues. Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A strong academic record, along with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • At least two years of private law firm practice
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop creative legal strategies
  • Demonstrated trial experience and/or trial preparation experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the proven ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Values diversity and teamwork
  • An optimistic outlook that thrives in a dynamic work setting
  • Eager to assume responsibility
  • Must be admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington experience a plus
