Employee Spotlight: Current Paralegal and Future Attorney, Amy Bloom

01.21.25 | NEWS

At Bullivant, we are proud of the team of attorneys and professionals we have assembled. That’s why we are excited to continue our Employee Spotlight series where we highlight the unique individuals who make our firm exceptional and shape our company culture. Through these spotlights, we aim to share the stories, experiences, and passions of our team members, showcasing the diverse talents and dedication that drive Bullivant forward. Today we’re interviewing Amy Bloom, a valued Paralegal on our team and a current student at Lewis & Clark Law School, whose growth within the firm promises a bright future.

How long have you been with the firm?

I started at Bullivant in the summer of 2019, so a lot has changed! When I began, the firm was located in our old offices near Pioneer Square, but was already in the process of planning the build-out for our current location. We had just moved in to our new offices and the firm had launched a re-branding campaign when COVID hit. While there were some bumps in the road as we all learned how to work as cohesive and efficient teams while scattered in our homes, I believe that my team came out of that experience much stronger, having been forced to develop systems in a very intentional way to accommodate the rapid growth that we have seen in caseloads over the last few years.

What do you like most about the work that you do?

Paralegal roles and job descriptions can vary a lot from firm to firm, so when applying to Bullivant, I wanted to ensure that it would be a role in which I was challenged and in which there is opportunity for growth. My background is not typical for a paralegal, as I changed careers after many years of running my own business consulting with early-stage start-up companies to help them commercialize their products, secure venture funding, and launch their companies into the “growth” stage. This experience, I believe, allows me to approach cases from a different perspective at times.

I very much enjoy the variety of matters that I get to work on. Every matter brings different challenges, whether involving new areas of law, or in piecing together the puzzle formed by the information that we collect through investigation and the discovery process. I appreciate that the attorneys I work with trust me to ensure that our understanding of the facts is thorough and correct.

What do you enjoy most about working at Bullivant?

I am happy to say that the firm’s leadership is very responsive to employee concerns, is very transparent, and has an open-door policy that welcomes suggestions (or frustrations) that any employee has. This permeates the firm’s culture, and I have found that every member of our team is appreciated, and their contributions are valued. Management cares about where the employees want to take their careers, and we see a lot of promotion from within the firm.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

When I’m not at work, I am (for the most part) studying. After much encouragement from my family, my colleagues at Bullivant, and with the firm’s support in working a flexible schedule, I started my 1L year at Lewis & Clark Law School in August. While it is somewhat all-consuming, I feel like I am finally taking the step that I should have taken decades ago when I first planned to attend law school “at some point”.

I look forward to spending more time during school breaks with family and friends, and having more time to spend at the beach, in the woods, and not in front of a computer screen!

Amy Bloom is a Paralegal working with attorneys in Bullivant’s Casualty and Business groups. She assists attorneys as they prepare for depositions, mediation, arbitration, hearings, and trials; interviews and coordinates witnesses; and researches and coordinates work with expert witnesses and investigators as needed. She has managed numerous small to medium-sized cases, as well as larger multi-million-dollar cases, for both plaintiffs and defendants. Matters have involved a precedent-setting government immunity issue, Superfund site cleanup, contract disputes with multinational firms, product liability, and wrongful death cases.

Prior to her work as a Paralegal Amy spent a decade advising clients as an independent business consultant. While at Bullivant, she made the decision to attend law school and pursue her JD, with the firm’s support. We’re incredibly proud to have her on our team, and we look forward to her future as an attorney.
